Family Law Areas of Practice

The Storay Advocacy Group is a full-service family law firm with experience handling a variety of complicated family law matters. The dedicated family law attorneys at SAG handles the following family law matters:

  • Divorce – No one gets married intending to get divorced later, and emotions often run high during the divorce process. The divorce process will resolve issues including child custody, child support, alimony, and division of property and assets.
  • Paternity – In some cases where the parents were not married at the birth of a child it may be necessary to establish paternity of the father for child support and time-sharing rights to be established.
  • Parental Responsibility –  Includes all powers and duties relating to care taking authority and decision-making authority for a child. The term includes physical custody, legal custody, parenting time, right to access, time-sharing, visitation, and authority to grant limited contact with a child.
  • Child Support – The state provides guidelines for establishing child support, however each case is unique and can be affected by several factors including income, health insurance, tax obligations, other support obligations, and financial hardships. Florida recognizes child support as a right of the child, so neither parent can waive the right to support.
  • Modification – If there are substantial changes in circumstances after a final judgment is entered a modification can be made to the final judgment to make changes to child custody, timesharing, and child support.
  • Alimony – Also known as spousal support, alimony is a complicated family law situation because the state does not have set guidelines they use in establishing support obligations. Every case is unique, we can help you determine your rights by reviewing your individual circumstances.
  • Adoptions – Our office handles family law adoptions including stepparent adoptions, grandparent and other close relative adoptions, as well as open and closed adoption cases.
  • Marital Settlement Agreements – Marital settlement agreements are used in uncontested divorce actions to establish division of assets, child custody and visitation rights, and child support and alimony obligations.
  • Dependency – Child dependency cases are brought before the court when there are allegations of abuse, neglect, or abandonment of a child. If you are facing such allegations you should have an experienced family law attorney to guide you through the process.
  • Domestic Violence Injunction – If you are the victim of domestic violence, our number one priority is protecting you and your family. A domestic violence injunction can protect your family by establishing guidelines and limits between you and the abuser, legally requiring your abuser not to have contact with you.

Do I need an attorney even if my case is uncontested?

It is often tempting to try to represent yourself throughout a family law matter, especially if it seems like both parties are reasonably working together to come to an amicable solution. But the family legal system can be complicated, and decisions made now can have significant lasting impacts that are difficult to reverse in the future. When you work with the family law attorneys at SAG, you will have a professional advocating on your behalf to protect your rights and best interests throughout the family law process.

Attempt to Collaborate and Prepare to Litigate

Because family law cases usually deal with our closest relationships and the outcomes of these cases can have a significant impact on the rest of our lives, it is best to try to reach a collaborative agreement between the parties. However, because these cases are both personal and emotional, reaching an outcome that both parties agree on is not always possible and sometimes mediation just doesn’t work out. Our family law attorneys always make our clients’ needs and best interests our top priority and are prepared to take the case through the litigation process, if needed. We will passionately advocate for your rights and interests throughout your family law case.

Supportive family law attorneys provide knowledgeable guidance and passionately advocate to protect the best interests of our clients and their families.
